Troubleshooting
Refrigeration
The double-drawer refrigerator is not frost free, so you will need to turn it off and let any ice build up defrost, typically a few times a year. If the drawer is not closing all the way, it is likely due to ice accumulation at the back of the unit.
Please attempt the troubleshooting steps in the manual (Go to the manuals and specs tab towards the bottom)

Griddles & Cooking
Turn the griddle on and let it run for about 20 minutes to burn off any oils from manufacturing. Before cooking, season the surface with a good-quality, high-temperature cooking oil. After cooking, spray warm water on the griddle and scrape off any food residue. Reseason with oil so it is ready for next time. We recommend using a long glove to protect your hand and arm from the heat while cleaning.
Bull grills feature high-BTU burners that heat quickly for professional-grade searing and grilling. For best results, preheat on high, then adjust heat based on your food. Sear thick cuts on high, then finish at a lower heat or in a cooler zone. Use lower settings for delicate foods to avoid burning. Mastering heat control will help you cook like a pro every time.
Grill Operation & Ignition
Our Piezo ignition systems work in two stages. Push the knob in, and gas will flow into the valve, which then creates a spark to ignite the grill. This process is quick. If the value isn’t turning or lighting, it may be frozen and needs replacement. Always ensure the black rubber gasket is properly seated on the valve to prevent gas leaks.
The burner may not have been installed correctly. It must be seated properly over the valve with the tab on the back inside the hole. Push the knob down for 7–10 seconds to allow gas into the burner before lighting. Also, inspect the burner for any cracks in the ceramic, as a cracked burner will need to be replaced.
Use Teflon tape on all threaded connections. Connect a short, double-ended ⅜ inch female flare gas line to the back of the BBQ. Then attach a ⅜ inch flare “T” fitting to the gas line. This will give you two remaining access points, one for the side burner and one of the incoming gas. Make your connections and light the grill.
Due to the backburner’s location, it takes longer for gas to reach the burner. Push and hold the knob for 8-10 seconds before igniting.
In most cases, the valves need to be replaced because the ignition system has failed.
Grill Performance & Heat
This is often caused by a small fire inside the burner when lit. Turn the burner off and re-light. It can also occur if the NG gas line is too small or if quick-connect fittings are restricting flow. Have a plumber check that your gas connections are the correct size.
Weather and propane supply can affect performance. If the tank is low or the weather is cold, the grill may not reach the 500-600°F range as it would with a full tank and warmer conditions.
We’ve redesigned our flame tamers with “ReliaBULL” technology, featuring smaller vents in the back to help reduce cold spots at the front of the grill. This design delivers more even heat distribution, though results may vary depending on conditions.
Your burners need cleaning. Remove them along with the cotter pins located behind and beneath the BBQ, then shake them or use an air gun to remove any dirt. If the burners are bowed, it’s time to replace them. If your grill is brand new and running on LP gas, you may have received an NG unit by mistake.
Check the gas line. Foam at the entrance of the line, located in the back right corner of the grill, could indicate a fouled regulator. A gas leak may also be causing the regulator to block flow as a safety measure.
The regulator may be restricting the gas flow too much.
The valve may need to be replaced, or the regulator could be restricting gas flow too much.
Safety & Fire Issues
The most common cause of grill fires is a dirty or poorly maintained drip tray. The tray should be cleaned regularly, and we sell liners that trap grease. Simply discard them when full. Gas leaks are another major cause of fires, making proper ventilation essential for outdoor kitchens. If gas cannot escape during a leak, attempting to relight the grill or using a match could result in an explosion.
The burners may need cleaning, or something is disrupting the gas flow, causing gas to travel back toward the valve. When ignited, this can create flames near the knobs.
Check all connections to the grill. If no leaks are found, there may be a leak underneath the grill. To inspect, view the valves from underneath. Each valve is held in place by one screw, tightening each screw securely, which should resolve the issue.
A simple test is to mix water with a little dish soap. Use a brush to apply the soapy water to your connections. If there is a leak, bubbles will form at the affected connection.
Maintenance & Accessories
Moisture is the most likely culprit, often caused by weather conditions or humidity. You can remove and disassemble the unit to dry the inside, and it should return to normal.
Wind may be entering through the back of the grill and pushing heat toward the knobs, which is usually not controllable. Another possibility is a hidden fire inside the burners or near the valves.
Our grills are made with stainless steel that contains nickel, which is not completely rust-proof. Living near the ocean or having a saltwater pool that splashes on the stainless steel can eventually cause rust. We recommend using rust-removal cleaners to eliminate rust and help prevent it from forming again. There are also products available that can be applied as a protective coating to stainless steel. Certain pool chemicals or cleaners can discolor or cause rust, so always use caution with products near your Bull equipment.
Bull does not currently cut any drainage holes. However, when your plumber connects the gas to the burner, a hole must be drilled into the cement board to access the burner. This hole also provides an outlet for water.
